PBSC alumnus Dr. Mike Sfiropoulos named Vice President of Academic Affairs
Palm Beach State College has named Dr. Mike Sfiropoulos as its new Vice President of Academic Affairs, effective May 18, following a comprehensive national search.
Sfiropoulos brings more than two decades of experience in Florida’s higher education system, most recently serving as Associate Vice Chancellor of Academic and Student Affairs at the Florida Department of Education. In that role, he played a key part in shaping statewide policies impacting academic programs, student services, dual enrollment, workforce development, and curriculum innovation across all 28 institutions in the Florida College System.
A proud Palm Beach State College alumnus, Sfiropoulos earned his Associate in Arts degree from PBSC, marking a full-circle return to the institution where his academic journey began.
Earlier in his career, he served the College as a full-time faculty member, associate dean of College Readiness, and department chair for English for Academic Purposes. During his tenure, he led significant program redesigns, strengthened student pathways, supported faculty development, and advanced innovative instructional practices—efforts that contributed to improved student access, retention, and achievement.
Widely respected across the state, Sfiropoulos is recognized for his expertise across the academic continuum, including curriculum and instruction, developmental education, guided pathways, distance learning, workforce and baccalaureate programs, articulation and transfer, and regulatory compliance. He is known for his data-informed leadership, collaborative approach, and strong commitment to student and employee success.
Sfiropoulos holds a Ph.D. in Higher Education Leadership from Florida Atlantic University, along with multiple graduate and undergraduate degrees in languages and linguistics. In his new role, he will help lead Palm Beach State College’s academic strategy and support its mission of transforming lives through education.
