Palm Beach State College announces Corey Thompson as its new Head Baseball Coach

Palm Beach State College is proud to announce Corey Thompson as its new head baseball coach. Thompson was selected after a national search and officially began his new role Aug. 3, 2026. 

Thompson comes to PBSC after spending the last six seasons as pitching coach and recruiting coordinator at Keiser University.  While at Keiser, Thompson helped guide the Seahawks to their ninth National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) regional appearance. 

Prior to Keiser, Thompson spent a season at Point University in West Point, Ga. as the pitching coach and recruiting coordinator. In his lone season, he instructed seven All-Conference and two All-Region pitchers.

"Coach Thompson stood out throughout our search because of his proven ability to develop student-athletes, recruit exceptional talent, and build winning programs with integrity,” said Peter Barbatis, EdD, vice president of student services and enrollment management. "More importantly, he understands the role athletics plays in supporting student success both on and off the field. We are excited to welcome Coach Thompson and his family to Palm Beach State College and are confident he will foster a culture of excellence, accountability, and opportunity that will elevate our baseball program."

Thompson began his collegiate coaching career at Coastal Alabama Community College - Brewton as the pitching coach for a season. He went on to spend three seasons as the pitching coach at NCAA Division II, Spring Hill College.
 
Thompson was the manager for the Wausau Woodchucks in the Northwoods League. In 2024, he was named the Northwoods League Manager of the Year with an overall record of 132-80 in just three seasons.

Under Thompson's tutelage, he has coached 20+ MLB draft picks, four of which were drafted in the top five rounds of the MLB draft. With several others moving on to play independent baseball.
 
Thompson played and graduated from Point University in 2015 after transferring from Coastal Alabama Community College. In 2014, Thompson was a member of the Point baseball team that advanced to the NAIA National Tournament for the first time in school history.

Thompson is from Lakeland, Fla., and currently resides in Lake Park with his wife, Amelia, and son, Baker, and dog, Oke. His brother serves as the national cross-checker of the San Francisco Giants of the MLB.
