A chance meeting becomes a creative journey across time
At 102 years old, most people have long since retired from their life’s passions — but not Helen M. Salzberg.
The award-winning artist and philanthropist is still creating, dreaming and collaborating. Her latest project, an exhibit titled “Across Time” she cocreated with fashion artist Brittany Praver, opens on Monday, Aug. 25. It’s a celebration of connection and style and offers viewers a captivating journey portraying iconic fashion moments through the decades.
It will be appropriately held in the Helen M. Salzberg Gallery — a space named in her honor — at Palm Beach State College’s Palm Beach Gardens campus. The gallery also houses the Helen M. Salzberg Center for Visual Arts which supports Palm Beach State’s Visiting Artist Fellowship, now in its third year.
The exhibit will showcase 45 paintings, drawings and collages that are both collaborative and individual works. It runs through Tuesday, Sept. 30 with an opening reception from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Sept. 9.
It’s open to students, faculty, and the general public with free admission Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
In the exhibit, attendees will see a visual dialogue, merging Brittany’s fluid, ambidextrous line drawings with Helen’s tactile, richly layered collages — a meeting of movement and texture that draws viewers into each moment captured on canvas. Salzberg’s refined, history-rich sensibility meets Praver’s contemporary, innovative approach, resulting in work that is as thought-provoking as it is visually captivating.
“Across Time” was born after a chance meeting between Salzberg and Praver in a quiet courtyard. That unexpected encounter sparked an inspiring bond between the two artists—creatives separated by generations yet united by a deep love for art, storytelling and fashion. What began as a conversation evolved into a shared vision, weaving together their unique voices into one artistic experience.
“We just understand each other and clicked from the start,” recalls Praver. “The subject of fashion works well for our particular styles, everything fluid and easy in the ways our lines and colors cross.”
Salzberg agrees, explaining the theme and purpose of their upcoming exhibition. “The idea is to show history through fashion – or fashion throughout history – with our artwork depicting eras that we admire.”

About Helen M. Salzberg
Salzberg has brought her artwork to life for nearly a century through an array of
creative mediums: collage, painting, reverse-on-glass painting and sculpture. Her
foray into the art world came at a young age with an impromptu lesson at the Young
Women’s Christian Association in New York City.
Steered from studying medicine, she took her mother’s suggestion to pursue an MBA, leading to a lifetime love and career of artistic expression and endeavors. Today, Salzberg is providing a similar opportunity for local artists to develop and share their work through the Helen M. Salzberg Visiting Artists Endowment, a collaborative initiative at PBSC that also serves the artistic community of Palm Beach County.
