Palm Beach State College student Riley Phillips has won the Vanilla Ice Music Video Award and a $1,000 prize for her music video interpretation of Olivia Rodrigo's hit song "Bad Idea, Right?"

Phillips, a motion picture production student pursuing an Associate in Science degree, won the award at the 30th Annual Palm Beaches Student Showcase of Films, Florida’s largest student film competition and award show, on Friday, April 25, at the Maltz Jupiter Theatre.

The award, named after the iconic rapper and actor, celebrates exceptional student-created music videos. Judged by a panel of industry professionals, the award honors originality, technical skill and artistic expression. Phillips' work stood out among numerous entries, earning her this esteemed recognition.

"I had Riley as a student in Intro to Editing, where her talent and abilities as a filmmaker truly shined," said PBSC's Co-Chair of Film, Animation and Recording Arts Thomas Cznarty.  "She brings creativity, focus and a strong visual style to everything she does."

This achievement follows Phillips' earlier success in 2024. While a finalist for the Palm Beaches Student Showcase of Films Burt Reynolds Scholarship, she took home their prestigious $1,000 Mel Maron Scholarship. These accolades highlight her consistent excellence and dedication to the field of motion picture production.

Phillips success not only reflects her individual talent but also exemplifies the quality of education and mentorship provided by Palm Beach State's Motion Picture Production program. Her achievements serve as an inspiration to fellow students and a testament to the program's commitment to nurturing future filmmakers.

"As Phillips continues to make her mark in the film industry, her journey stands as a beacon of inspiration for aspiring filmmakers, demonstrating the impact of passion, education and perseverance in the pursuit of artistic excellence," said Cznarty.

The Palm Beaches Student Showcase of Films is Florida’s largest statewide film competition and red-carpet award show, spotlighting the next generation of visionary filmmakers, graphic designers, and digital storytellers. This prestigious juried competition has become a launchpad for high school and college students, awarding scholarships and accolades across a wide range of categories.
