PBSC Belle Glade nursing students volunteer in the community to combat cardiovascular disease

On Feb 1, 2025, 10 first-year PBSC nursing students from the Belle Glade campus volunteered at the “Know Your Numbers by Heart” event hosted by Dr. Jinga Oglesby-Brihm, the CEO of Empower Healthcare Inc. in Pahokee.  This free heart health screening event was attended by many members of the local community. The students helped support the clinic's mission to promote heart health awareness. Under the supervision of PBSC 's adjunct nursing instructor Dr. Dayana Padron, Prof. Pateshia Vickers and Dr. Ebony Telfer, the students assisted in taking blood pressure, performing circulation screenings, and providing valuable education to patients.
"By going out into the community and working with patients, our first-year students were able to learn a lot and get hands-on experience, " said Dr. Padron. "This collaboration between students and healthcare professionals highlighted the importance of community engagement and health education in preventing cardiovascular disease.
