Palm Beach State College student and military veteran Clarens Metellus, who is currently enrolled in the Automotive Service Technician program, received a $5,000 scholarship through the Automotive Aftermarket Scholarships Central which is supported by the University of the Aftermarket Foundation.

This amount will help cover his tuition, fees and books. Metellus submitted an application to be considered for the scholarship. As part of the requirements, he wrote a one-page essay about his career goals and provided a letter of reference. The foundation provided $2,500, and for his service in the military, he received an additional $2,500.

“Clarens is a very alert and active student,” said his instructor, Peter DeSoto.  “He formed good habits from his military experience. He is enthusiastic about the automotive trade and his enthusiasm spreads to the other students.  He is a very good student who does a lot of research on his own. He is actively collecting and purchasing tools and equipment for when he enters the technician job market. In short, if I were to have an automotive shop, I would hire him.”
