Update on Instructure Canvas Incident
Palm Beach State College is aware of a cybersecurity incident involving Instructure Canvas, a third-party platform used by PBSC and many colleges and universities nationwide.
At this time, there is no indication that PBSC systems were breached. Instructure has notified the College that PBSC-related Canvas data was impacted, and the company’s investigation remains ongoing.
The College’s Information Security team, Information Technology, PBSC Online, and Academic Affairs have been monitoring the situation closely and reviewing the College’s Canvas environment. To date, PBSC’s review has not identified unusual activity in its Canvas environment.
Canvas access was temporarily disrupted when Instructure placed Canvas into maintenance mode. Access has since been restored for PBSC users.
Out of an abundance of caution, PBSC is reminding students, faculty, and staff to remain alert for suspicious emails, text messages, links, attachments, or requests for passwords or multi-factor authentication codes. Users should access Canvas only through PBSC’s normal login process.
PBSC will continue to monitor updates from Instructure and will provide additional guidance if further action is needed.
