Grant teams at PBSC have been actively presenting at conferences throughout 2024 to help share valuable insights and outcomes from pilot student development and faculty training programs.

In November, PBSC’s Palm Beach Gardens Associate Dean Dr. Becky Mercer, PBSC’s Program Grant Director for the National Science Foundation’s SATC Grant Brandon White and PBSC’s Program Grant Director for the Title V Panther Strong Grant Lisa Walther, visited Arlington Virginia where they presented their findings from the joint Summer Institute Faculty development training at the 2024 Transforming STEM Higher Education Conference hosted by the American Association of Colleges and Universities (AACU).

The grant teams were joined by Lead Faculty Coach of the Summer Institute PBSC Professor Dr. Emmanuel Alvarado, and recent Summer Institute Faculty Participant Dr. Shadreck Chitsonga to provide their own unique perspectives of the program in a Q&A panel discussion that spanned coordination, curriculum development, and faculty class assignment redesign projects from the training.

“Attendee feedback on the presentation was positive, we’ve had administrators from other institutions reach out to us since the conference for more details on the program so they could explore implementing similar trainings. This was a great opportunity for us to promote the meaningful work we’re doing with help from the incredible support structure here at PBSC,” said White.

In August, Mercer and White visited Lexington Kentucky to present at the Biennial Conference on Chemical Education (BCCE) hosted by the Division of Chemical Education (DivCHED) of the American Chemical Society (ACS). They hosted two workshops at the conference on their SATC Lab Research Programs outlining the model structure and the student impacts to date.

Both conferences provided amazing opportunities to highlight PBSC’s profile among the higher education community and share valuable insights from grant activities. The SATC grant team will be presenting more work in 2025 at the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics Annual Virtual Conference 2025 and is waiting on confirmation for presentations at the Florida Career Pathways Network Annual Symposium 2025.

The grant teams would like to thank the National Science Foundation, The Department of Education, and the PBSC Administration for helping to make these conference presentations possible.
