Student Government Association leaders from Palm Beach State College’s Palm Beach Gardens campus were elected to the Florida College System SGA Region 4 board during the FCSSGA Leadership Retreat held last month at the College of Central Florida’s Ocala campus.

The students are: Marjelie Pierre Etienne who was elected Secretary; Deshaunte Tribble, elected as assistant coordinator; Marlon Morin as Jurisprudence and Rayan Melvin as alternate Jurisprudence.

“Our students ran very competitive races, and I was pleased to see them offer themselves to lead on the regional level,” said Provost of the Palm Beach Gardens campus Dr. Stephen Joyner. “This shows how effective, engaged and popular our students were.”

FCSSGA Region 4 is comprised of Broward College, College of the Florida Keys, Florida SouthWestern State College, Miami Dade College and PBSC.

In addition, five of the SGA leaders earned their FCSSGA Leadership Training certification. They are: Alvincia Johnson, Morin, Pierre Etienne, Melvin, and Matthew Sproger.

The FLT certification consists of six core courses in three categories and a capstone session. The courses are Ethical Leadership, Effective Communication, Effective Meeting, Social Responsibility, Event Coordination and Civic Engagement. The courses are offered under the categories: Civics, Campus Involvement and Leadership.

The next FCSSGA conference will be held April 19 - 20 at Seminole State College’s Sanford/Lake Mary campus. PBSC intends to send a delegation.
